Helen P. Denman, Upper Sandusky, died at 7:45 PM on Friday, January 19, 2007 in her home at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community. She was 104. Born in Carey, Ohio, on March 30, 1902, she was the daughter of Raymond and Jenneta (Patton) Griffith and both are deceased. She married George Denman on July 7, 1923; he preceded her in death on March 17, 1977.
Being the matriarch of a five generation family, Mrs. Denman is survived by her son R. Joseph and wife Joan, Harpster, Ohio, her daughter-in-law Lois Denman, Banning, California, grandson David and wife Linda, Del Rio, Texas, grandson Kurt Fisher and wife Jamise, Dallas, Texas; granddaughter Anne Johnson and husband, Darrell, Upper Sandusky, great grandsons Matthew Denman and wife Mandy, Bowling Green, Benjamin Denman and wife Maritza, Alameda, California, and great granddaughters, Adrienne Johnson and Sabrina Fisher and great, great grandson, David Phillip Denman, Alameda. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Byers, daughter Kathleen Fisher and son Thomas.
Mrs. Denman was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church. She served many years as choir director for both the First Lutheran and the John Stewart United Methodist Churches in Upper Sandusky. A talented soprano, Mrs. Denman, along with Marian Moser and Helen Stecher, was a member of the "Jenny Lind" trio. She taught voice lessons and sang at many special occasions and weddings and was a soloist in the local production of the "Messiah." She was an 80 year member the Warpole Lodge #366 of Eastern Star and recently received her 80 year pin. She was employed as Food Service Director of the Upper Sandusky Schools until 1967. Upon retirement she and her husband moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where she resided for thirty years. Prior to moving back to Upper Sandusky, she lived with her daughter in Dallas.
A memorial service will be held at Fairhaven Chapel on Friday, January 26 at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Cathy Wirth officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Mrs. Denman was cremated.
