Hazel E. Stiefel of Upper Sandusky, Ohio passed away on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 11:08am at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Hazel was born on April 28, 1921 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio to the late Edwin and Emma (Bonsel) Earp. She married James Stiefel on July 30, 1941 in Upper Sandusky and he died on September 8, 1995.
Surviving are three daughters, Catherine (Gordon) Boicourt of Richmond Indiana, Norita (Raymond) Moses of Victorville, California, and Rebecca Stiefel, who lived at home with her mother in Upper Sandusky. Seven grandchildren, Todd (Emily) Boicourt, of Richmond, Indiana, Tamara (Rick) Fletcher of Richmond, Indiana, Kim (Dean) Smith of Richmond, Indiana, Terry (Angel) Boicourt, of Connersville, Indiana, Sonya (Mark) Phillips of Apple Valley, California, Dennis (Angie) Moses of Lynn Haven, Florida, and James (Cathleen) Moses or Orcutt, California, Nineteen great grandchildren, and one great grandchild on the way in April. Hazel also fostered 3 daughters.
Also surviving Hazel is a sister, Myrtle (Robert) Iams of Mt. Gilead, Ohio.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Carl and Noble Earp, and six sisters, Calista Redding, Izetta Walters, Anna Patchet, Nina Roseberry, Maude McCaw, and Mary Neeland.
Hazel was a homemaker and also worked in the cafeteria in the Upper Sandusky School System for many years before retiring. . She attended Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church here in Upper Sandusky. Hazel received Ohio Mother of the Year in 1981 from the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. She was a former member of Upper Sandusky's Firemen's Auxiliary. For hobbies she enjoyed knitting and crocheting, word puzzles and playing Skipbow and loved her cat
Pepe.
Funeral services for Hazel will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio with Pastor Chad Guined officiating the services. Burial will follow at the Old Mission Cemetery in Upper Sandusky.
Visitations will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 9:00am -11:00am at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
Memorial contributions may be made to Angeline Endowment Fund or the Upper Sandusky Fire Department and both can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
