Harold E. Shuman, age 89, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on
Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 4:00am at Wyandot Memorial Hospital in
Upper Sandusky.
Harold was born on August 15, 1922 in Carey, Ohio to Carl and Hazel (Long) Shuman. he married Donna Marcile Lea on September 8, 1957 in the Trinity United Church of Christ in Upper Sandusky and she survives.
Also surviving are two children: David (Karen) Shuman of Upper Sandusky and Barbara (John) Fehl of Fremont and a granddaughter Elizabeth Shuman and a grandson Lynn Shuman.
Harold was the last of his family, being preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Glenn and Wilford (Colleen) Shuman.
Harold was a fifth generation farmer who was especially known for growing popcorn. He was a longtime member of the Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky, where he had served on many committees of the church over the years. He was also a member of the Progressive Sunday School Class there at Trinity and enjoyed playing dartball with the Trinity Church Team.
He was a former Wyandot County Commissioner from 1956-1964 and a member of the Wyandot County Farm Bureau , along with being a 50 year member of the Carey Lodge #420 F&AM. After graduating from Carey High School in 1940, Harold later on went on to serve our country during WWII in the Signal Corps and was a U.S. Army band musician.
Harold and his wife Donna enjoyed spending their winters in Zephyrhills, Florida. For hobbies he enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, collecting Carnival Glass, and following various sporting events, whether it was the Buckeyes in football and basketball or the Indians or Reds in Baseball.
Above all, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Funeral services for Harold E. Shuman will be held at 10:30AM Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey, Ohio where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted Carey Honor Guard.
Visitations will be held on Friday from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
