Harold E. Kinsey

Harold E. Kinsey, age 90, of rural Nevada, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

Harold was born December 1, 1922 in Antrim Township, Wyandot County to Luther H. and Gladys (Kinsey) Kinsey, both of whom are deceased. He married Andora Christensen on September 7, 1947 at the Nevada Lutheran Church and she survives.

He is survived by 4 children, Cheryl (Ronald) Beier of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Diane (Nick) Wisda of Nevada, Michele (Allen) Halfhill of Bradner, and Curtis (Judie) Kinsey of Nevada.

Harold also had 10 grandchildren, Jennifer (Loren) Simpson, Nathan (Jeannie) Beier, Aaron (Jana) Beier, Andrew (Amanda) Wisda, Stacy (Steve) Sirianni, Sean (Elizabeth) Halfhill, Ryan (Hannah) Halfhill, Troy (Deanna) Halfhill, Brittany (Danny) Bacosa and Ashley Phillips. And 17 great grandchildren, Natashia Simpson, Andoria Simpson, Jesstinia Simpson, Krystyna Beier, Shelbi Crees, Skyler Crees, Ellie Beier, Darien Beier, Maggie Wisda, Lucas Wisda, Alison Wisda, Aubrey Halfhill, Ayden Hoover, Amiya Lee, Arionah Bacosa, Elijah Bacosa and Jackson Bacosa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Alice Koehler.

Harold was a 4th generation farmer in Wyandot County and continued farming along with his son Curtis until retirement just a few years ago. Harold also at one time, worked as a diesel mechanic in Upper Sandusky for the former Pfiefer's and Harbour's motor repair service.

He served his country during World War II having served in the Army in the 133rd Engineers Combat Battalion, having served in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and the Ardennes. He was awarded the Purple Heart along with 5 Bronze Stars as a result of his major engagements in Europe.

Harold was a lifelong member of the Nevada Lutheran Church in Nevada, where he had previously served as president of church council, and as a deacon of the church. He was a life member of the Nevada American Legion #462 and long time member of the Nevada Lions Club, where he served as past-president and secretary. He was also a member of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary for 34 years, where he won various competitions for his sharp shooting skills. And was a former member of the Nevada Knights of the Pythias and served as a director of the former Nevada Elevator.

Harold loved the outdoors which is evident by his various passions, such as hunting for wildlife, especially deer and turkey, to his love for fishing, especially fly- fishing. He enjoyed looking for mushrooms and bird watching, and also enjoyed camping, and traveling, having seen most of the United States and Canada.

He will be remembered for his love for his wife and children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His family was his life and he cherished them all. He will be sadly missed but not forgotten, for his memory and legacy live on in them.

Funeral services for Harold E. Kinsey will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the Nevada Lutheran Church with Rev. Chelsea Spencer officiating. Burial will follow at Nevada Cemetery where graveside rites will be conducted by Ohio State Patrol and the Upper Sandusky Veterans Color Guard.

Visitations will be held Tuesday May 14, from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada and 1 hour before service time on Wednesday at the church.
