H. LaVerne (Verne) Weatherholtz, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio and Fort Myers, Florida, passed away December 19th at 2:00pm at the Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Mr. Weatherholtz was born in Fairfax County, Virginia, on December 23, 1920, and moved to Ohio at an early age. He was the son of Harley E. and Jessie J. (Hunt) Weatherholtz. .In 1955 he married Priscilla (Wilson) Frost who survives. He is also survived by two stepchildren, Charles Frost of Sebring, Florida and Mrs. Eric (Carolyn) Peterson of Portland, Oregon and four step-grandchildren, Andrew and Teresa Frost and Thomas Peterson and Wendy (Peterson) Juden , one great granddaughter, one great grandson and several nieces and nephews
Mr. Weatherholtz was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Calvin Weatherholtz, four half brothers, Sidney and Earl Adams and Cecil and Lewis Weatherholtz, and two half sisters, Teresa Adams and Minnie Oliff.
He graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1940 and was a member of the original 1939 Rams football team. He was an Aerial Gunner in the 9th Air Force in WW11 and earned the Air Medal with 13 oak leaf clusters for service in the European Theater. He graduated from Spartan School of Aeronautics with a commercial pilot's license. He worked in the Nevada and Bucyrus area for several years before moving to Sandusky, where he was employed at several automotive businesses and operated Verne's Ignition Service for seven years. He retired from The American Crayon Company as a millwright and later moved back to Upper Sandusky, spending the winters in Florida where he was active in the Laurel Estates Social Club and Lot Owners' Association. He was a lifetime member and past commander of Nevada Post 462, American Legion.
Verne enjoyed golf, computer graphics, ballroom dancing and garage sales. He gave years of tender loving care to his wife. His kind nature, quiet intelligence and wry sense of humor will be greatly missed by family and friends.
The family will receive family and friends from 6:00pm - 8:00pm on Tuesday, December 23 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
