Glen E. Vanhorn

Glen E. Vanhorn Sr. , age 87, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio , passed away
on Wednesday, May, 23, 2012 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo from
injuries he sustained in a building fire on May 11, 2012.

Glen was born December 8, 1924 in Grayson County, Kentucky to Fred Sr. and Doshia (Adkins) Vanhorn, both of whom are deceased. He was once married to Myrtle Pryor and she is deceased, and then married Jean (Gillespie) Kraus on February 24, 1969 in Folkston, Georgia and she survives.

Surviving Glen are his children: Glen (Lisa Hawk) Vanhorn Jr., Beverly (Gary) Patterson, Rex (Becki) Vanhorn, Karen Vanhorn, Loren (Karen) Vanhorn, all of Upper Sandusky, Sharon Seifert of Carey. A daughter in law, Malinda Vanhorn of Grove City, Ohio and stepchildren: Teri (Albert) Myers of Upper Sandusky, Michael (Deb) Kraus of Grand Prairie, Texas, Amy (Frank) Lemmon of Versailles, Ohio, George (Martha) Kraus of Tiffin and Joe (Cindy) Kraus of Upper Sandusky. And also 28 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren survive.

He was preceded in death by a son William Vanhorn, stepson Dick Kraus, a grandson Joshua Kraus and 2 brothers, Walter Vanhorn and Fred Vanhorn Jr. and a sister Ileene Adkins.

Glen served his country in the US Army during WWII having served in the European Theater and was awarded EAME Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and The Purple Heart.

Glen farmed and owned Rexlor (Vanhorn) Trucking Company, Carey Plastics,Wyandot Industries and was instrumental in bringing industry to Wyandot County.

His memberships included Life membership in the Carey American Legion #344, Carey VFW #3759, Charter Life Member of the Amvets #777 in Upper Sandusky, and the Upper Sandusky DAV and a former member of the Wyandot County Mounted Sheriff's Posse.

For hobbies he enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie, spending his winter in Florida, where he managed the Charlotte County Speedway. Glen also loved to visit with people, where he loved to share stories and a good joke.

Funeral services for Glen E. Vanhorn Sr. will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Wayne Geissinger officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Upper Sandusky, with military graveside rites conducted by the Carey Veterans Honor Guard..

Visitations will be on Friday, from 2:00PM to 8:00PM at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
