Gene M. Piatt

Gene M. Piatt, age 83, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at 9:55pm at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Gene was born on January 25, 1939, in Marion, Ohio, to Frank and Hazel Marie (Hutchinson) Piatt. Gene married Mary Evelyn Cramer on June 14, 1958, in Harpster, Ohio, and she survives in Upper Sandusky.

Gene is also survived by his children: Denver Piatt of Marion, Steve (Julie) Piatt of Wyandot, and Teresa (Bill) Piatt-Grove of Upper Sandusky, 5 grandchildren: Jennifer (Michael) Perry, Sarah (Bryce) Butler, Grace (Gage Fletcher) Piatt, and Lucas (Ashton) Rife, David Grove, 2 great grandchildren: Elliott and Kierra, his brother Robert Piatt of Marion, and his best friend Norm Elliot of Florida.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, and 5 siblings: Betty, Delores, Carl, Ronnie, and Harry.

Gene grew up and worked on the family farm most of his life. He also owned and operated Piatt and Sons Excavating for several years, drove a semi-truck, worked at Tecumseh in maintenance, and at Rockwell Industries in Kenton, as a Machinist and Journeyman Millwright until his retirement in 1990.

Gene and Mary retired to Florida where they lived for 20 years. Gene loved working on tractors and cars and could fix just about anything. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, and he loved spending time with his kids.

A memorial service for Gene Piatt will be held at 6:00 PM on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and will be officiated by Pastor Steve Sturgeon.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 6:00 PM on Saturday, prior to the service.
