Frederick "Fred" A. Feichter

Frederick “Fred” A. Feichter, age 83, of Upper Sandusky, passed away at 3:56 AM, on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at home surrounded by his family.

Fred was born on December 21, 1942, in Bucyrus, Ohio, to M. Dow and Alice (Dahmer) Feichter. Fred married Martha Kear on December 11, 1965, at the Salem United Methodist Church, and she survives him in Upper Sandusky. Their 60 years of marriage was the center of his life.

Fred is also survived by two daughters, Lisa Feichter of Chicago, IL, and Lori Feichter of Richwood, and two grandchildren, Micah Wall of Carey, and Jonah Troxel of Upper Sandusky. He is survived as well by two sisters, Linda Walters of Marion, and Fred’s twin sister Fran (Ken) Swartz of Upper Sandusky, and by Linda’s children, his niece Robin Bryant and nephew Brian Walters.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents.

Fred graduated from Harpster High School in 1960 and went to work as a telegraph operator for the Colorado & Southern Railway. He then attended Ohio Northern University, earning his bachelor’s degree, before beginning his teaching career at Ridgedale Local Schools in 1966, where he would spend the rest of his working career, teaching high school math until 1998, then serving as Technology Coordinator from 1998 – 2003. He continued his education at Purdue University, earning a master’s degree in mathematics education in 1970. Throughout his career, Fred was also a school bus driver, golf and chess coach, all while working the family farm.

Fred was well known among his students for his nickname of Overhead Fred, a nod to his 6’4” frame and his signature overhead projector, and for one word: THINK. It was encouragement to his students that they already had everything they needed to solve the problem in front of them, whether in class or in life.

Most of all, Fred was devoted to his family and known throughout the community for his kindness, whether that meant a board meeting or a neighbor’s driveway. He served 33 years on the Board of Governors for the Wyandot Memorial Hospital, serving as Chairman in his final years on the Board. He was also on the board of the Wyandot Health Foundation, and taught Sunday school at Salem UMC for decades.

Fred never met a prank or a lively game of euchre he would pass up. He loved golfing, though he never got out on the course quite as often as he would have liked, and he especially enjoyed great music. He also had a soft spot for pie (and Pi, fittingly for a math teacher) and considered chocolate cake its own food group. His monthly breakfasts with former Ridgedale teachers were a standing date he rarely missed.

Fred will be remembered by all who knew him, and deeply missed by his family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and will be officiated by Pastor Christopher Thacker, and Pastor Steve Sturgeon.

Visitations will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 AM on Friday, at the funeral home prior to the service.
