Florence A. Payne, age 92, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, died Sunday, March 22, at 1:35pm at Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky.

Florence was born on May 25, 1916 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio to Harry and Modest (Brown) Williams, both of whom are deceased. She was first married to Arden Oates who is deceased. She then married Kelvin Payne, who also is deceased.

Florence is survived by three children: Allen (Esther) Oates of Charlotte, NC., Diane (Ron) Walton of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and John (Paula) Oates of Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Seven grandchildren: Brandt Walton of Upper Sandusky, Aaron Walton of Upper Sandusky, John Oates of Richwood, Ohio, Sara Oates of Sycamore, Ohio, Chris Oates of Tennessee, Angela Oates of Illinois, and Jamie Langston of Nevada, Ohio. And also nine great grandchildren: Britt, Kory, Karlie, Stacey, Shawn, Joshua, Cole, Justin, and Stevie.

She is also survived by a sister, Shirley Gibson of Upper Sandusky, and a brother: Richard Williams also of Upper Sandusky. A special life long friend, Minette Hull of Upper Sandusky, and a life long hairdresser and friend, Carolyn Pennington of McCutchenville also survived.

She was preceded in death by three sisters: Gloria Althauser, Jean Swartz, and Lillian "Noney" Mapes, and two brothers: Robert Williams, and Ivan Williams.

Florence was a homemaker and also worked at the Busy Bee Grocery for many years and in her early years at the Midway Restaurant, both here in Upper Sandusky. She was a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky. She was a member of The Eastern Star Warpole Chapter 336, Emblem Club #536 and American Legion Auxillary and Tri Sigma Sorority all in Upper Sandusky. She was a former member of the Women of the Moose, Amvets and VFW Auxillary in Upper Sandusky.

She also enjoyed baking her famous cookies and cakes and creating decorative eggs from ostrich and duck eggs.

Florence loved her family, friends and neighbors greatly and she will be remembered for living life to its fullest.

Visitation: Calling hours will be held on Wednesday March 25, 2009 from 2pm - 4pm and 6pm - 8pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky and 1 hour before service time on Thursday.
