Evelyn Smith, age 88, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016 at 4:00pm at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky, with her family by her side.
Evelyn was born on February 20, 1927 in Jackson Township, Wyandot County, Ohio, to Richard Jr. and Ruah (Parsell) Walter, both of whom are deceased.
She graduated with honors in 1945 from the Marseilles High School, and went on to attend the Marion Business College.
She was a bookkeeper for Eagle Nest Hatchery, and that is where she met her husband, Gale Smith. They were married on June 23, 1947, and he passed away on June 15, 2001.
Evelyn is survived by 2 sons; Jim (Becky) Smith of La Grange, Kentucky, and Jeff (Julie) Smith of Marion. Five grandchildren; Jenny (Scott) Batton, Kelley Smith, Scott Smith, Todd Smith, and Dr Amy (Sean) Keesee. Five great grandchildren; Kirk and Sarah Batton, Michell, Jason and Curt Keesee, along with a sister Jane (Roger) Bowen of Upper Sandusky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Helen Everhart-Rossman, and two brothers, Paul and Glenn Walter.
Evelyn also had worked as a bookkeeper for Mills Metal Compartments and later for the B.C. & G Weithman Construction in Bucyrus, and along with Gale, her husband, owned and operated Smith Rentals in Upper Sandusky. She also
was an "Avon Lady" representative in the Upper Sandusky area for many years.
Evelyn was a 59 year member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky, and for hobbies she enjoyed perch fishing with her husband at Lake Erie, traveling with the family, playing pinochle and euchre, gardening, sewing, and watching OSU basketball and football.
Funeral services for Evelyn Smith will be held at 11:00am Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Joe Trester officiating. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery.
Visitations will be held on Friday, February 19, from 5pm to 8pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.

The family is very appreciative of the friendship that was shown to Evelyn by her neighbors, Betty Romich, John and Cheryl Lyon. Without all of you, she could never have lived her final years in her own home.
