Evelyn E. Rowse

August 30, 1920 — February 26, 2015

Evelyn E. Rowse, age 94, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 4:00am at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky.

Evelyn was born on August 30, 1920 in Crane Township -Wyandot County, Ohio to Ray B. and Lydia (Frey) Swinehart. She married Arthur Rowse on June 3, 1945 at the Trinity Reformed Church of Christ, and he passed away on March 5, 1989.


She is survived by 2 sons, James A. Rowse, and Thomas B. (Deborah) Rowse, both of Hoopeston, Illinois. And 2 daughters, Susan (David) Mayberry of Galax, Virginia, and Sarah (John) Rathgeber of Wichita, Kansas. 6 grandchildren, John Rowse, Allen and Anne Mayberry, Ben and Sam Rowse and Trent Rathgeber, and a brother Robert Swinehart of Fairborn, Ohio, and a sister in law, Vera Swinehart of Upper Sandusky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers, Russell and Ralph and a sister Anna Roberts.

Evelyn was a 1939 granduate of USHS. She first worked at the Bowman Grocery in upper and, then prior to marriage she worked at the Western Union in Columbus. She was an Avon representative from 1967 to 1974, then worked at the former Short Stop in Upper Sandusky until her retirement.

She was a member of the Wildwood Chapel in Upper Sandusky, where she taught VBS and was a member of the Women's Missionary Fellowship. Upon her moving to be closer to family in Hoopeston, she attended the First Baptist Church in Hoopeston. She also volunteered with the hospital guild at Wyandot Memorial for many years.

She was an avid reader, especially the bible, going for long energetic walks, baking cookies and sending care packages. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and her love for her family and her way of serving others before herself. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services for Evelyn E. Rowse will be held at 2:00pm Friday, March 6, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Upper Sandusky.

Visitations will be held from 12:00pm to 2:00pm on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wildwood Chapel or a charity of the donor's choice and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
