Evelyn P. Powell

Evelyn P. Powell, age 97, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012 at 8:05PM at Fairhaven Retirement and Healthcare Center in Upper Sandusky.

Evelyn, a lifelong resident of Upper Sandusky, Ohio was born on November 7, 1914 to Emery and Edith (Haas) Hilderbrand, both of whom are deceased. She married Ralph D. Powell on April 24, 1943 in the Trinity Evangelical Church in Upper Sandusky and he died on February 13, 2001.

Surviving are two sons, David ( Kathy) Powell of Sunbury, Ohio and Donald (Debra) Powell of Upper Sandusky. Four grandchildren Amy (Phil) Hahn of Cincinnati, Julie (Travis) Borkosky of Tekamah, Nebraska, Darci (Kevin) Burlew of Upper Sandusky and Douglas Powell of Columbus along with four great grandchildren, Evelyn Rose, David, Rachel and Matthew Hahn all of Cincinnati.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Paul Hilderbrand and a foster brother Harry Gilliland.

Evelyn was a homemaker and had worked as a deputy recorder for many years in the Wyandot County Recorder's Office. She also had worked at the former Lee's Trading Post and Bennett's Grocery.

She was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky where she was a member of the Progressive Sunday School Class. She was a
member of the Wyandot Memorial Hospital Guild, and a volunteer at the Wyandot County Home. She was also a 1932 graduate of the Upper Sandusky High School.

For hobbies, Evelyn enjoyed raising flowers, especially roses and violets, gardening and canning, doing needlework and playing games of Skip-Bo and Rummikub with family and friends.

Funeral services for Evelyn P. Powell will be held at 1:30pm on Friday, April 6, 2012
at the Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky with Rev. Jim Stauffer, Rev. Travis Borkosky and Rev. Mary Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in Old Mission Cemetery.

Visitations will be held on Thursday, April 5, from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at the Lucas- Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky and 1 hour before service time at the church on Friday.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Trinity U.M.C. Building Fund, Fairhaven Activities Fund or a charity of the donor's choice and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
