Ethel J. Mohr, age 100, of Marion, Ohio and formerly of
Green Camp passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 6:20pm at the Marion Manor in Marion, Ohio.
Ethel was born on October 24, 1910 in Aldine, Indiana to Edwin W. and Myrtle (Rice) Matthews. She married Martin M. Mohr on November 26, 1961 and he died on May 17, 1980.
Surviving are her niece and caregivers Fred and Vena (Christman) Sandridge of Morral, Ohio. Niece Betty (Christman) Slemmons of Prospect, Ohio. Nephews Craig (Rachel) Christman and Gregory (Donna) Matthews. Great nephews Steven (Cheryl) Sandridge and David Sandridge and great niece Shari (Chris) Zeigler.
Ethel was preceded in death by three sisters, Emma J. Christman, Vena Hill and Mary Navin, along with three brothers, Dan, Max and John Matthews. Two nieces also preceded her in death, Melba J. (Christman) Killen and Rose Ann (Christman) Ledford.
Ethel worked for Weston-Wisler-Zucker Insurance Co. for 61 years. She began a career in the life insurance business on February 2, 1930 with the Midland Mutual Insurance Co. in Marion. Ethel was considered the "right arm" for four midland general agents, starting with Charles Schaad, from 1930 to 1954; Charles Scherer from 1942 to 1954: Lewis Ashworth from 1954 to 1972 and Bill Wisler who had worked with her since 1972, and Mike Zucker. Mel Weston is deceased.
Aside from her running a smooth office, Ethel was a devoted Boston Celtic and Buckeye fan. She also was an avid fisherwoman and loved to read. One of her favorite mornings would be going to breakfast with her niece and husband each morning.
She was a graduate of Green Camp High School in 1928 and Marion Business College.
Ethel was a tremendous person and a wonderful aunt and mentor to all of her nieces and nephews. She had a special friend in Ed Kennedy and Eleanor Gibson.
Graveside services for Ethel Mohr will be held on Friday, November 5, 2010 at 10:00am at the Prospect Cemetery in Prospect, Ohio.
