Ellis C. "Bud" Helge

Ellis C. "Bud" Helge, age 83, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio passed away
Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 7:20am Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky.

Bud was born on August 17, 1928 in Caspian, Michigan to Ellis O. and Isabel (Kade) Helge both of whom are deceased. Bud married Joyce C. Smith on October 3, 1953 in Caspian, Michigan and she survives in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

Also surviving Bud are 5 children: John (Sarah) Helge of Manistee, Michigan, Mary, Helge of Rossford, Christina (Ronald) Szydlowski of Napolean, E. Charles Helge of Hilliard, and Lynn Helge of Napolean. Four grandchildren also survive, Lindsay, Emmalyn, Chas and Erin and a brother David (Judy) Helge of Mundelein, Illinois.

Bud was a 1946 graduate of Eagle River High School in Eagle River, Wisconsin where he spent his young adult life. He then went on to attend Michigan School of Mines (Now The Michigan Technological University) where he graduated in 1952.

Bud served in the US Army during the Occupation Forces in Korea from 1946 to 1948.

He worked as a Division Manager at National Lime and Stone for 28 years where he retired in 1990.

Bud was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Upper Sandusky where he had served as an elder, the Warpole Lodge #176 F&AM; Past Master in 1976, McCutchen Chapter #96 RAM; High Priest 1973, Upper Sandusky Council #98 RSM; Past Ill. Master 1973 & 1974, Marion Commandery #36, Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo; Zenobia Temple-Noble of the Mystic Shrine, Warpole Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #366 where he served as Worthy Patron, Upper Sandusky Lions' Club, Board Member of Wyandot County Council on Aging and the American Institution of Mining Engineers.

He also was a volunteered for the Boy Scouts and for many years with the American Red Cross Summer Swimming Program where he taught many area youth basic swimming skills. Bud was also the 2002 Senior Citizen of the Year.

For hobbies Bud enjoyed golfing, caning chairs, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

Funeral services for Ellis C. "Bud" Helge will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, January 14 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Kenneth Wessler officiating the services. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Upper Sandusky.

Visitations will be held on Friday, January 13 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 8:00pm Friday at the funeral home
