Edward J. Barth, 87, of Upper Sandusky died at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 27, 2011 at University of Toledo Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio.
He was born September 20, 1923, in Upper Sandusky, OH to the late Edward Franklin and Fern (Bower) Barth. He married Margaret Dill on November 15, 1946, and she died on May 9, 2007.
Edward is survived by a son, Edward Franklin (Rosetta) Barth of Nevada; two daughters, Patricia (Charles) Earl of Bowling Green and Rebecca (Leonard) May of Upper Sandusky; grandchildren: Kelly (Kevin) Babcock of Middletown, OH, Samuel (Amy) May of China Springs, TX, Starlena (Junior) Hill of Bucyrus, Rory P.J. (Heather) of Toledo, Ryan May of Upper Sandusky, Nicole Stryker of Upper Sandusky and Lori Barth of Bucyrus; great-grandchildren, Shaun, Erin, Tyler, Trevor, Katie, Candyel, Carson and Sullivan; a sister, Pat (Frank) Shaffer of Forest and a brother, Bruce (Susan) Barth of Lambertville, MI.
Also preceding him in death is grandson, Albert Barth, sisters, Jeanne Hankins and Shirley Hankins.
Ed served in the Army of the United States from June 1943 until his honorable discharge March 1946 and was the recipient of decorations and citations including American Theatre, EAME Theatre with three bronze stars. He served with Battery B, 575th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion in the European Theatre of Operations. During the Battle of the Bulge, he was a prisoner of war until released by fellow American troops. He was employed by United States Auto Wrecking Company of Upper Sandusky and worked for over thirty seven years as a warehouseman at Swan Rubber Company. He was a life member of the McVitty Post #1182 in Forest.
Military Graveside Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Nevada Cemetery, Nevada, and will be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Veterans Color Guard.
The family will receive friends following the graveside service back at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky where lunch will be served in the Community Room of the funeral home.
The family requests that memorials be made the following McVitty Post 1182, VFW Post 2842, or the American Legion Post 225, AMVETS #777, all in Upper Sandusky or Hospice of Wyandot County in care of the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
