Edith C. Phipps, age 89, of Harpster, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.

Edith was born on March 19, 1925 in Wilder, Tennessee to Manuel and Roena (Mathews) Beaty, both of whom are deceased. She married Charles C. Phipps on July 2, 1941 in Clearwater, South Carolina and he passed away on December 25, 2002.

Edith is survived by a son Michael (JoAnn) Phipps of Toledo, Ohio, and 2 daughters, Linda (Larry) Bard of Harpster, and Deborah (Robert) Michener of Upper Sandusky. 3 grandchildren, Jaime Duress, Beth Lehman and Megan Watterson, along with 7 great grandsons, Joel, Adam and Samuel Duress, Blake, Alec and Reid Lehman and Alan Watterson.

She is also survived by 2 brothers, Bruce Beaty of Nevada, and Shelby Beaty of Cookeville, Tennesse and 4 sisters, Josie Hale of Akron, Ohio, Olene Hicks of Muncie, Indiana, Lallon Olmstead of Galion, Ohio, and Lois Brown of Galion, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Bricely, 3 brothers, Joel, Buss, and Herschel, and 2 sisters, Virgie Garrett and Lena Rogers.

Edith was a homemaker and had worked as a nurse's aide at the former Taylor's Nursing Home in Harpster and the Wyandot Manor in Upper Sandusky. She then went on to work for the former Millington Plastic and J-Lenco Manufacturing.

She was a member for over 60 years with the Harpster United Methodist Church, where she was active with vacation bible school and various dinners prepared by the church. She was a former member of the Belles and Boys Mother's Club.

For hobbies, Edith did ceramics, along with gardening, canning and cooking. She also volunteered at the Fairhaven Community during her retirement years.

Edith will be remembered for her love for her family, and faith in Christ, which was evident in her optimistic approach and attitude in all that she did in life.

Funeral services for Edith C. Phipps will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Harpster United Methodist Church, with the Rev. So Hea Park officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitations will be held on Tuesday, June 10, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky and 1 hour before service time at the church on Wednesday.
