Douglas E. King, age 65, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 11, 2025, after a long period of declining health, now at rest and free from pain.
Born on February 25, 1960, in Upper Sandusky to Myron and Alice (Mosman) King, Doug was a lifelong resident of the community he loved so dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his brother, Daniel (Linda) King of rural Nevada; his sister, Tamara Groves of Upper Sandusky; and his beloved nephews and niece: Jeremy (Jennifer) King of rural Nevada, Alex (Thomas Engels) King of Toledo, and Elizabeth (Colton Row) Groves of rural Alvada. Doug also cherished his great-nieces and nephews: Jade, Jayla, Jessa, and Jace King, and Caden, Waylon, Wyatt, and Cohen Row.
Doug graduated from Wynford High School in 1978 and soon after from the Tiffin Academy of Hair Design. He began his career in 1979 at Renaissance West Hair Salon in Upper Sandusky, where he spent more than four decades as a talented stylist, trusted confidant, and dear friend to so many. His client base quickly grew, not only because of his skill and dedication but because of his genuine warmth and charisma. Doug had a remarkable ability to light up a room, and his laughter and easy conversation made every visit feel like time with an old friend.
Beyond the salon, Doug loved to travel, especially on cruises with friends and family, where his energy and humor made every trip memorable. He also enjoyed entertaining, dancing, listening to music, and sharing moments of joy with those around him.
Doug will be remembered for his kindness, his caring spirit, and the joy he shared with everyone around him. He will hold a special place in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many clients who became part of his extended family over the years.
Services for Doug will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Stonewall Columbus, a central Ohio LGBTQ+ community center and advocacy organization, or to the Wyandot County Humane Society, and sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
Those who knew Doug will forever cherish his laughter, his warmth, and the love he brought into their lives.
