Donna M. Shuman, age 86, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 12:05pm at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky.
Donna was born on December 5, 1926 in Goshen, Indiana to Don R. and Cora A. (Markley) Lea, both of whom are deceased. She married Harold E. Shuman on September 8, 1957 in the Trinity United Church of Christ in Upper Sandusky and he died April 25, 2012.
Also surviving are two children: David (Karen) Shuman of Upper Sandusky and Barbara (John) Fehl of Fremont and a granddaughter Elizabeth Shuman and a grandson Lynn Shuman.
Donna was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Ross and Earl Lea, and 9 sisters, Jesse Smalley, Josephine Myers, Arline Mullholand, Dorothy Spayth, Hattie Wallace, Gladys Wertz, Marion Erwin, Evelyn Kiess and Marjorie McNary.
She was a 1944 graduate of Mt. Zion High School, where she was the class valedictorian. She went on to BGSU to receive her bachelor's degree in Education.
While at BG, Donna was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority.
Donna retired from teaching in 1976 having taught primarily in Upper Sandusky Junior High, but also held teaching positions earlier in her career in California and Michigan.
Donna was a long time member of the Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky, where she was a member of the Progressive Sunday School Class.
She was also a member of the Wyandot County Retired Teachers Association and the UpSan Mothers League.
For hobbies, Donna and Harold would spend their winters in Zephyrhills, Florida. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, getting together with family at reunions, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Funeral services for Donna M. Shuman will be held at 10:30AM Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey, Ohio.
Visitations will be held on Friday from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
