October 22, 1954 — May 24, 2013

Donald F. Winter, aged 58, of rural Nevada, Ohio, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013 at his home.

Donny was born on October 22, 1954 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio to Herbert and Wanda (Bennett) Winter, both of whom are deceased. He married the love of his life, Rebecca A. Dunn on November 4, 1978, and she survives.

His two daughters, Erin Elizabeth Winter of Brooklyn, New York and Sarah Suzanne Winter of Columbus, Ohio, also survive, along with 3 half siblings- Michael Winter of Findlay; Jeremy Rowe, whereabouts unknown; Amy (Greg) Hunter of Florida; and his stepmother, Martha Winter of Nevada.

Donny is also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends- Jason, Eric, Jessica, Bri, Addie, Emma, and Shelly, all of whom he delighted in spending time with. Gracie, his Siamese cat, continues to sleep at the end of his bed.

Donny was a welder and worked maintenance for the Shelly Corp/Wyandot Dolomite for the last 17 years of his career. Prior to that he worked for Marion Power Shovel and the Lima Tank Plant. Through his trade, he was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #18, and found great value in working towards a safe and fair job site for all workers. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served our country during the Vietnam War.

Donny enjoyed the outdoors and also had a deep passion for music, especially the Grateful Dead. He had amassed an extensive collection of rare live concert recordings that will be donated in his name to the William T. Jerome Library at BGSU. Also, he was an enthusiastic Planetary Defense Ranger.

Donny will be remembered for his profound love of family, his desire to spend every minute possible with them, his wicked sense of humor, and his talent for storytelling. He will be greatly missed.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Don's life will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. Blue jeans and rock'n'roll t-shirts would be preferable to suits and ties.
