Donald G. Ham, age 82, of rural Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away at his home on Saturday, October 3, 2015.
Don was born on April 11, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio, to Earl G. and Ada M. (Fish) Ham, both of whom are deceased. He married Linda D. Brockert on June 21, 1966 in Wapakoneta, Ohio, and she passed away on January 5, 2013.
He is survived by 5 children: Don (Kris) Ham, Jr. of Portland, Michigan, Annie Ham of Lansing, Michigan, Melinda (Roy) Morais of Columbus, Ohio, Daniel (Sandee) Ham of Arlington, Ohio, and Duane (Jenny) Ham of Nevada. 14 grandchildren: Katie Rutka, Derek Ham, Tisa Meyers, Courtney Hofbauer, Jeri Anderson, Justin, and Tyler Hofbauer, Shane, Luke and Kyle Morais, Dylan, Sydney, Ellee and Emilee Ham, along with
9 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
Don is also survived a brother, Lewis Ham of Tampa, Florida.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald D. Ham, a daughter, Linda Aseltine, a grandson, Bobby Aseltine, and a half brother, Joseph Kamzuri.
Don was retired driver after 40 years of service in the trucking industry with Yellow Freight.
He was a veteran having served our country in the
Cold War with the US Army. Don later in his life continued to serve with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary at Lake Erie, from 1992 - 2010, where he served as the auxiliary commander, along with his wife.
Don was a long time member of John Stewart United Methodist Church. He also was a member of Teamster Local 40 in Mansfield, where he served as an union stewart for 27 years.
He also was a life member of both, the VFW Post #2842, and Amvets #777, both in Upper Sandusky. Masonic Lodge F&AM #, 176, McCutchens Chapter #96, and DeMolay Commandery #9, and the Knight's Templar in Tiffin.
For hobbies, Don enjoyed boating, fishing, and just being up at Lake Erie. He also enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends by writing letters.
A memorial service for Donald G. Ham will be held at 11:30am, Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the John Stewart United Methodist Church, with Rev Brian Arnold officiating. Military Honor Rites will be conducted after the service by the Upper Sandusky Color Guard.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to John Stewart UMC, or the Masonic Lodge in Upper Sandusky, and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave Upper Sandusky, 43351.
