Deborah Ann Gatchell

September 28, 1956 — December 31, 2025

Upper Sandusky

Deborah Ann (Courtad) Gatchel, age 69, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025, at Wyandot County Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her children and family.

Deborah was born on September 28, 1956, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, to Merle and Jane Courtad.

Deb was a nurse for over 40 years and devoted her life to caring for others. Nursing was more than a career to her—it was who she was. She had a deep compassion for people and animals alike.

She loved to walk and was a familiar sight throughout Upper Sandusky, often walking daily around town. Deb had a special love for cats and cared for many over the years. During her walks, she would carry treats, leaving food for stray and feral cats along her path—quiet acts of kindness that reflected her generous heart. She also loved Susie’s pizza, a simple joy she truly enjoyed.

She is survived by her children, Katherine (Chuck) Mann, Kristina (Joshua) Shroll, and William (April) Merriman; her grandchildren, Jessica (Phil) Galaska; Miranda (Dane), Madison, Kimber, and Hayden Mann; Reese (Ambria) Gaster; Maeley (Alex) Binau; and Jayce and Erin Merriman; and her great-grandchildren, Gannyn Snider and Westyn Gaster.

She is also survived by her siblings, David (Dena) Courtad, Dan Courtad, Steve (Tina) Courtad, and Becky (Tom) Shaw.

Deb was preceded in death by her father, Merle Courtad, and her niece and nephew, Cassie and Marcus Courtad.

Deborah will be remembered for her kindness, her dedication to caring for others, and the quiet ways she showed love every day. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
