Daniel R. Pagnard, age 91, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 6:40am at the Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
Daniel was born on December 12, 1922 in Upper Sandusky, to Clarence and Helen (Wilson) Pagnard. He enjoyed 67 years of marriage as he wedded Joyce M. Swihart on April 11, 1947 and she survives.
He is also survived by a son, Dennis E. Pagnard of Morral, Ohio, two grandchildren, Rex (Lynette) Pagnard of Upper Sandusky, and Pennee (Matthew) Perkins of Alliance, Nebraska; a great granddaughter, Meaghan Pagnard of Upper Sandusky.
Daniel is also survived by a brother, Allen (Barbara) Pagnard, of Upper Sandusky, and two sisters, Martha (Robert) Zimmerman of Nevada and Evie Hall-Case of Upper Sandusky. Along with 2 sister in laws, Betty (Charles) Pagnard of Cedarville, Ohio, and Dorothy (Karl) Pagnard of Upper Sandusky along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Jay Dallas, Charles, Howard, Karl and Thomas, a sister Mary Oman; and a daughter in law, Patricia Pagnard.
Daniel graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1942 and went on to enlist in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation in Wyandot County, where he worked for many years. After his retirement, he continued working for The Commercial Savings Bank in Upper Sandusky, where he worked for 27 more years.
Daniel was a lifelong member of the Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky, where he served as an usher for over 50 years.
He was a life member of the following organizations; American Legion Post #225, where he was past commander, VFW Post #2842, and was a member of the Upper Sandusky Color Guard, and faithfully took part in many military gravesite rites over the years.
He was a life member and still held the office of Inner Guard with the BPOE #83 and was also a member of the Moose Lodge #1093.
For hobbies in his early years, Dan enjoyed golfing and bowling. In later years he enjoyed traveling to annual reunions with his USS Bridge AF-1 shipmates. He will be remembered for his love for his family, and for his country.
A memorial service for Daniel R. Pagnard will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery, where military gravesite rites will be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Color Guard.
Visitations will be on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. An Elks Memorial Service will be held at 7:45pm on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Evangelical, Wyandot County Home Health, or Hospice of Wyandot County and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH. 43351.
