Cyril "Cy" Raymond Frey, age 91, of Upper Sandusky, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center.
Cy was born on May 10, 1934, to Jerome and Mary Ann (Hunkele) Frey. He married Judith Rose Frisch on September 27, 1961, at St. Anthony Church in Angola, Indiana, and she survives in Upper Sandusky.
Cy is survived by 2 daughters, Karina (Greg) Garber and Kim (Steve) Rall both of Upper Sandusky, 2 sons, Brad (Susanna) Frey of Upper Sandusky, Ryan (Suzanne) Frey of Sunbury, 11 grandchildren: Wyatt (Jill) Garber, Zoe Garber, Jordan (Jessica) Rall, Drew (Tricia) Rall, Travis (Michelle) Rall, Hannah (Brian) VanHeck, Annalee (Eric) Sprang, Chelsea (Tim) Fox, Clare Frey, Audrey Frey, Gabe Frey, and 20 great grandchildren: Vivian, Kyle, Kendall, Makenna, Karlee, Maren, Atlee, Grant, Emery, Briar, Cy, Eleanor, Mack, Crew, Kam, Rowe, Abel, Asher, Asa, and Olena. Cy is also survived by 2 brothers: Fred and Norbert Frey.
Cy was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Elliot Frey, siblings: Gerald, Herman, Jerome Jr., Miriam Vent, Edwin "Bud", Rosalie Pahl, Agatha Thomas, Sister Noel, Wilfred, and Norman.
Cy graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1952 and was drafted into the US Army. Cy was a self-employed contractor and worked with his son Brad for many years. He was a very talented woodworker and made rocking chairs, based off Judy's childhood rocking chair, for each of his grandkids, great grandkids, and many others in the community. Cy donated his time and expertise many times working on the church and donating handmade wood working projects to the St. Peter's Festival.
Cy was well known for his custom built '51 Kaiser. Cy enjoyed going on hunting trips with his friends in his younger years, and he enjoyed playing golf. He even made a hole in one in 2011, at Lincoln Hills on hole #2, which was witnessed by his close friend Larry Swihart. Cy was a former member of Wyandot County Rod and Gun Club and the American Legion.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky, and will be officiated by Father Savio Manavalan, OFM Conv. Visitations will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 am at the Church prior to the service.
