Claude W. Walton, age 101, of Upper Sandusky, and formerly of Sycamore, and rural Nevada, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 6:00pm at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky.

Claude was born on April 24, 1915 and was raised in Sycamore, Ohio, by his parents, George and Mabel (Hilderbrand) Walton.  He married Catherine E. (Mosman) West on July 2, 1966 in Nevada, and she passed away on November 25, 1998.

He is survived by a step son, Steve (Sarah) West of Forsyth, Georgia, 2 step grandchildren Jennifer Wilkerson of Fayetteville, Georgia and Patrick (Ilana) of Marietta, Georgia, along with 4 great grandchildren, River West, Benjamin, Grace and Abigail Wilkerson, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and 2 brothers, Grant and Wade Walton, along with 3 sisters, Sarah Shellhouse, Vivian Warrington, and Helen Riedel.

Claude was an operating engineer and was a former member of the Local #18 Operating Engineers.  He saw a lot of the world in his century of life. As an operator of heavy construction equipment, he traveled to Africa, South America, Europe, Canada, Mexico, and all United States to build airports where none existed, during World War II.

For hobbies, Claude enjoyed woodworking and following the stock market. Also spending time with friends at Kroney's each day. These friends visited him regularly until his passing.

Graveside services will be Monday, May 23, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Sycamore, Ohio.
