Charles Joseph Hedges, age 83, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at his home.
Joe was born on May 14, 1942 in Tiffin, Ohio, to Karl W. and Zella Mae (Holdcraft) Graves, who preceded him in death, along with his step-father, Guy Graves.
He married Linda Harriger on May 14, 1966 in Bucyrus and she survives, along with their 3 children: Monica (Rick Wood) Hooper, Matthew (Ronda) Hedges, and Marcella Hedges, all of Upper Sandusky.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Hill Jr., Melinda Riblet, Macy Hedges, Daulton Stansbery, DeAnna Stansbery, and step grandchildren, Kaleb Hooper, and Durayea Stansbery, and a great grandchild, Devyn Riedamier
Joe retired as a major chief of security with the Allen Correctional Institution in Lima. Previously he worked in Marion and Mansfield for the Ohio Department of Corrections.
Joe was a former member of the Upper Sandusky Moose Lodge #1093, and the VFW #2842. Joe was also a past commodore of the Nugent's Canal Yacht Club in Port Clinton.
For hobbies, Joe enjoyed boating, fishing for walleye, camping, searching for arrow heads in his younger years, and playing in fast pitch softball. He also competed in dart leagues, bowling and golfing. He also enjoyed playing 3d archery, and backgammon, where he was a self-proclaimed champion.
A celebration of life gathering for Joe Hedges will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the Upper Sandusky Moose Lodge, 381 N. Warpole St. Upper Sandusky. There will be a prayer service at 5:00 pm which will be officiated by Danny Vaughn.
