Charles Edward "Ike" Jury, age 74, of rural Nevada, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Marion General Hospital, Marion, Ohio.
Ed was born on February 6, 1938 in Wyandot, Ohio to Earl A. and Leah Jean (Chance) Jury, both of whom are deceased.
He is survived by a special friend Shirley Schrote of Nevada along with a son David (Patricia) Jury of Bucyrus, granddaughter Chelsea (Josh) Bennett of Bucyrus, a great granddaughter Briella Bennett and 2 step grandchildren Shane (Stacy) Grove of Bucyrus, Crystal (Paul) Basel of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and 5 step great grandchildren, Hannah, Gabriella and Olivia Grove and Colby and Aspen Basel.
Ed is also survived by a sister Mary (Donald) Ralph of Morral, along with Shirley's family who considered Ed to be like a 2nd father to them, daughter Sue Bloomfield of Bucyrus and her 2 children, Jennifer Bloomfield and her son Aiden, and Austin Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by a brother Donald Jury and sister Margaret Jury.
Ed was a 2nd generation farmer having farmed with his father and continued the family operation, C & D Jury Farms into the 3rd generation with his son David. Upon retirement from farming, Ed continued the other family business by driving truck for 2X Cedar Trucking Company.
Ed was a life member of the BPOE #83 in Upper Sandusky along with Sons of the Amvets #27, where he was a life member and American Legion Post #181, VFW Post 1078, Moose Lodge #669, all in Bucyrus. He also served with the Crawford County Swine Committee and played an instrumental part in the building of the Swine Arena at the Crawford County Fair and also in the building of the Goat Arena at the Wyandot County Fair along with some other projects at Aumiller Park, such as the Swinging Friendship Bridge and the picnic shelter. Ed also was a Dallas Township Trustee for many years and was the co-founder of the Jury-Chamberland Golf Scramble at Cranberry Hills Golf Course which has been
in existence for 32 years.
Some of Ed's hobbies included golfing, hunting and fishing, going to Las Vegas, playing bingo and watching OSU sporting events and NASCAR. He also enjoyed going to the fairs in Wyandot and Crawford County and watching family and friends show their various livestock.
Graveside Services for Charles Edward Jury will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the Grand Prairie Cemetery in Brush Ridge.
Visitations will be held on Friday, August 31, 2012 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm and 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Amvets Post #27 of Bucyrus, Wyandot County Fair Maintenance Fund or the Crawford County Fair Maintenance Fund can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 401 S. Main St. Nevada, OH 44849.
