Cathy J. Abbott

Cathy J. Abbott, age 76, of Nevada, passed away at 4:17 PM on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the James Cancer Center at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Cathy was born on November 20, 1948, in Greenville, Ohio, to Marion D. and Wanda L. (Brown) Clapp. She married George Abbott on March 17, 1968, in Delphos, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on July 22, 2012.

Cathy is also survived by her 2 children, Beckie (Jim) Shuck of Upper Sandusky, and Robert (Tammy) Abbott of Nevada.  5 grandchildren: Ellie (Ramsey) Magoto, Levi (Haylee) Abbott, Mary Shuck, Cassie (Zayne) Weck, Natalie Shuck, 3 great grandchildren: Audrey Abbott, Emerson and Bristol Weck.

She is also survived by her brother, Steve (Peggy) Clapp of Lima, and sisters, Pamela Moore, Marsha (Rick) Newland both of Lima, and Vickie (Jeff) Kleman of Delphos.

Cathy graduated from Delphos Jefferson in 1967 and she was a stay-at-home Mom while raising her children, and babysitting. The yard was always full of neighborhood kids and Cathy was usually out there playing baseball right alongside the kids. Later on, Cathy worked in banking first at the former Commercial Savings Bank, Upper Sandusky, and then for Peoples Savings & Loan in Bucyrus, for many years.

Cathy was a member for many years of the Nevada Community Church.

For hobbies, Cathy enjoyed quilting and sewing, and she was a member of Prayers & Squares in Upper Sandusky, and a former member Wyandot County Piece Makers. She also enjoyed gardening, and tending to her flowers, and most of all, spending time with her family and grandchildren.

A funeral service for Cathy Abbott will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and will be officiated by Pastor Brian Spangler and John Kibbler.

Visitations for Cathy Abbott will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, and 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
