Catherine Ann Mccarthy - Swavel

May 24, 1954 — January 18, 2017

Catherine Ann (McCarthy) Swavel, treasured wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and sister, age 62, of Morral, Ohio, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the James Cancer Center at The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

She was born on May 24, 1954 in Burbank, California to Edgar J. and D. Natalie (Stephens) McCarthy.  Her father is deceased and mother is living in Bucyrus, Ohio.  She is survived  by her husband Jeff Swavel.

Also surviving are Cathy's children: daughter, Raegan (Derek) Hastings of Forest; son, Ethan (Carrie) Hoy, of Forest, and a step daughter Nicole Swavel of Wooster along with her little loves: grandchildren, Marshall and Raelynn Herr, and Bailey, Abby, and Tanner Hoy.

Cathy leaves behind eight younger siblings: Patrick McCarthy (Kim Foltz), Fostoria, OH; Claire (Kevin) Russell, Upper Sandusky; Jane (Michael) Starkey, Chandler, AZ; Betsy (Michael) Schoenfeld, Gold River, CA; Stephen (Vivian) McCarthy , Las Vegas, NV; Mary Jo (Ray) Williams, Tallmadge, OH; Maggie (Allen) Haley, Grapevine, TX; Molly Rose McCarthy (Melissa Morgan), of Upper Sandusky.

Cathy is also survived by her father and mother in law, Clyde and Donna Swavel of Morral, along with  numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a step daughter, Macey Swavel.

Cathy currently worked as the Shipping Scheduler at  Bridgestone APM Company in Upper Sandusky, OH in the shipping and receiving department.  Before that she had worked at Millington/Blackhawk, The Dairy Snack, Buckeye Machine Fabricators, Inc., First Citizens National Bank, Guardian Industries, Race Spec and USAC Racing Association in Indianapolis, Indiana.  She was a 1972 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and attended The Ohio State University

Cathy will be remembered for her sweet spirit, gentle soul, sense of humor, and for her appreciation of all things colorful and beautiful.   A gifted artist, Cathy excelled in many mediums. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting, needlework, flower gardening, music (especially 60's & 70's Rock and Roll), long walks, and spending time with her dog, Patch.  Her favorite hobby was loving her family, even if from afar.

Cathy was selfless, until the very end, when she bravely entered a clinical trial with the hope of finding a cure for those battling BPDCN, an extremely rare form of cancer.

Funeral services for Catherine Ann Swavel will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.

Visitations will be held on Monday, January 23, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the James Cancer Research Center or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio  43351.
