Calvin Bardon

March 15, 1936 — January 5, 2026

Upper Sandusky

Calvin Bardon entered into eternal rest on January 5, 2026, surrounded by his daughters, Lori and Jane.

Cal was born on March 15, 1936, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, to Elmer and Myrtle Bardon. He was welcomed into a family that included siblings Harold, Marion, Mary Alice, and Doris, all of whom preceded him in death.

On June 24, 1956, Cal married the love of his life, Pat. Together they shared 65 years of marriage until her passing on November 20, 2021.

Cal is survived by his daughters, Lori (Tom) Byrd and Jane (Matthew) Smalley; his grandchildren, Jordan (Julia) Byrd, Micah (Becca) Byrd, Breanna (Craig) Romich, Jodi (Trey) Miller, and Mara Smalley; and nine great-grandchildren.

A true gentleman, Cal was generous in countless quiet ways. He had a servant’s heart and met the needs of others with humility and kindness, blessing not only his family but many within his community and beyond. He retired from American Electric Power after 41 years of employment, and proudly served from 1967 - 1999 as a volunteer firefighter with the Upper Sandusky Fire Department.

Cal enjoyed playing Euchre with several groups throughout the week and met regularly with both an AEP retirees group and the Upper Sandusky High School Class of 1954. Known as a “gadget guy,” his family was confident there was very little he couldn’t fix.

Through the years, Cal and Pat shared many adventures, from motorcycle rides in their earlier days to later cruising in their Miata as members of the Buckeye Miata Club, where they formed lasting friendships. Cal took great pride in maintaining beautiful flowers in front of his home each summer and decorating his porch with creations made by Pat. Passersby often commented on how much they enjoyed his flowers and decorations.

Cal is deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His gentle spirit continues to guide those he loved, and his memory will be cherished forever.

We will honor Cal’s life with a funeral service at 11:00 am Friday, January 9,  at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. Interment will follow at Old Mission Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to an informal lunch gathering at the funeral home following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Sandusky Fire Department Volunteers, where all funds will remain with the local department for the purchase of tools and equipment. Memorials may be sent to Lucas Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave Upper Sandusky, OH., 43351.
