Blanche S. Shumaker-Guthrie, age 99, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away
On Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 5:30pm at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.

Blanche was born on March 6, 1916 in Wyandot County, Ohio, to Joseph and Rosa (Henige) Shumaker.

She is survived by two daughters: Judy A. Fleece of Carey, and Shirley (John "Bill") Stober of Sycamore, Ohio. Six grandchildren: Christine Wentling, David (Becky Schmidt) Fleece, Shawn (Lisa) Stober, Jason Stober, Jennifer (Rich) Kesler, Michelle Stober.

She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Cynthia and Deborah Fleece, four sisters and brother in laws: Dorothy (Ralph) Schindler, Ruth (Fred) Snavely, Helen (Delmer) Rish and Loretta (Floyd) Vannatter.

Blanche was employed early in her life, at Kimmel Cleaners and Neikirk 5 & Dime, both in Upper Sandusky. She then went on to serve the Ohio Bell Telephone Company for 32 years, at the office located on Eighth and Walker Street, in Upper Sandusky. Blanche took the first phone call and she also, at the closing of the Ohio Bell office in October of 1979, took the last call made through that office.

She attended Indian Mill one room school, St. Peter's Catholic School and graduated from Upper Sandusky High School.

Blanche enjoyed playing euchre, whenever there were three or more gathered together at a table, crocheting, and watching the birds and squirrels.

Blanche will be remembered for her love of family and gathering for various family celebrations. She will be greatly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am, Monday, April 27, at the Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church with Rev. J.R. Hadnagy, OFM Conv officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitations will be held on Monday, April 27, one hour prior to service time, 10:00am to 11:00am, at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Catholic School, Masses at Transfiguration of the Lord, or Hospice of Wyandot County, and can be forwarded to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
