Billy Dean Nelson

Billy D. Nelson, 92, of Upper Sandusky passed away at VanCrest Nursing Home on Monday, January 6th.

Billy Dean, (as his wife Sue liked to call him), was born in Dunkirk, Ohio on August 30, 1932, to James and Sevilla Nelson. He married Sue Riley on November 11, 1952.  They enjoyed 72 years of marriage.  Sue survives in Upper Sandusky.

Billy Dean is also survived by 4 children: Jeff (Patty) Nelson, Gary (Barb) Nelson, Melanie (Jeff) Radabaugh, and Heather Heil, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Bonnie Durkin, and Elgene Niswander.

Billy Dean was preceded in death by his parents, son in law Todd Heil, and 4 siblings: Bob, Dick, Francis, and Mary Jo.

Billy graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1950. Billy served in the Army during the Korean War and was actively engaged in armed conflict.  He was honorably discharged as a Corporal, bypassing promotion to return home to his wife and newly born child.

He established a reputation as a dedicated worker for nearly 60 years for his employers, Walton Grain, McCarthy Quarry, and Schilling Propane in Upper Sandusky.

Billy's involvement in community service included a term on City Council, and the American Legion in Upper Sandusky.

He will be laid to rest in Dunkirk Cemetery with private family graveside rites officiated by Rev.  Ken Wessler of Upper Sandusky.
