Betty J. Brown, age 93, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 7:59pm at Arbors West Nursing Home in West Jefferson, Ohio.

Betty was born on September 13, 1922 in Wyandot County, to Albert and Monzell (Callahan) Stury, both of whom are deceased. She married Richard E. Brown on May 9, 1942 in Norfolk, Virginia, and he passed away on February 17, 1998.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Diana (Bill) Hawkins of London, Ohio, and Janice (Charles) Karcher of Upper Sandusky, along with 13, grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Rosetta Barth, grandson Albert Barth, and 2 sisters, Thelma and Zelda Mae Stury.

She was a homemaker and worked for over 35 years as an Avon Representative.

Betty was a life long member of the Emanuel United Church of Christ in rural Upper Sandusky, where was a member of the Women's Guild, and an active member of the church in many capacities throughout the years. She was also a member for over 50 years of the Nevada Pythian Sisters Temple 412, where she was past chief and also held various chairs.

For hobbies, she enjoyed raising flowers and gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting and embroidery, along with cooking.

Her greatest love was her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

Funeral services for Betty J. Brown will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, January 21, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held 2 hours before service time on Thursday, 12:00pm to 2:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, with a Pythian Sisters Memorial Service to be held at 1:45pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, Diabetes Foundation, or to Emanuel UCC and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
