Bessie M. Wetherell

Bessie M. Wetherell, age 89, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019

At 7:25pm at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky.

Bessie was born on January 28, 1930 in Parma, Missouri, to Cyrus A. and Lulu J. (Holden) Chaney, both of whom are deceased.  She married Marvin P. "Murphy" Wetherell on March 29, 1952 in Decatur, Illinois, and he passed away on March 16, 1992.

She is survived by a son, Jeff "Butch" Wetherell of Upper Sandusky, and a daughter, Becky (Stan) Geiser of Upper Sandusky.  7 grandchildren: Matthew Geiser, Erica Geiser, Tyson Geiser, Devon (Ruben) Ruiz, Aaron (Stephanie) Wetherell, Laura (Nick Lanicuskas) Wetherell, and Katie Wetherell, along with 5 great grandchildren, Rebecca Joann Geiser, Anna Ruiz, Isabella Ruiz, Cooper and Graham Wetherell.

Bessie was preceded in death by her siblings, Earl Chaney, Elsie Chaney, Randell Chaney, Randolph Chaney, Ella Mae Moulton, and Cyrus Elmer Chaney.

Bessie graduated in 1948 from Stephan Decatur High School.  After she moved with her family to Upper Sandusky, she proceeded to work for the former Quick Shake, and then for Karl and Dottie Pagnard at the restaurant.  She then started working as a nurse's aide for the Fairhaven Community and the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  She also worked for many years as a Walmart greeter in Upper Sandusky.

For hobbies she enjoyed traveling, eating out, sitting on her porch, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Funeral services for Bessie Wetherell will be held at 11:00am Monday, August 12, 2019 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with Chaplain Steve Sturgeon officiating.  Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery.

Visitations will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and also 1 hour before service time on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County, or the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing Chair Fund.  Memorials may be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio  43351.
