Bertha M. Burk

May 11, 1914 — August 25, 2011

Bertha A. (Moser) Burk, age 97, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio went to be with her Lord on August 25, 2011 at Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.

Bertha was born on May 11, 1914 in Salem Township, Ohio to Frank Moser and Annis (Bland) Moser both of whom are deceased. Bertha had one sister, Stella (Moser) Opper and a brother Lester D. Moser both of whom preceded her in death. Bertha's brother, Ralph W. Moser, age 91, resides in Harrison, TN. Bertha Graduated from Salem High School in 1933, and from a two year business college in Marion, Ohio. She paid her tuition by being head pastry chef for a well known restaurant in Marion. She was tutored by the owner Chris Turoff. All of Bertha's friends and family recall the delicious pies, cakes and candies she served and took to many family and community events. She was known for her kindness and generosity.

Bertha married Roland H. Burk, of Johnstown, PA on June 3, 1936 in Estherville, Iowa. He preceded her in death when their only son, Robert H. Burk, was just five years of age. She contracted Tuberculosis in 1938 and was confined in isolation in a Sanitarium for TB patients in Mt. Vernon, Ohio for approximately four more years. The Lester Moser family in Wharton, and Edna Guthrie family of Ankneytown, Ohio took good care of little Bobby during those years of separation from his mother.

Surviving Bertha is her only son, Robert H. Burk, of Grand Blanc, MI, with his wife of 53 years, Sandra (Watson) Burk originally from Harrisburg, PA. They have four children; Robert A. (Linda) Burk of Richland, WA, Elizabeth B. Freeborg of Flint, MI, who passed away on June 2, 2011, Todd D. Burk of Minneapolis, MN, and Suzanne B. (Thomas R.) Yauch, of Farmington, MN. Bertha has nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family living in the Wyandot County area and in the Harrison, TN community.

She lived most of her life in Ohio, primarily in Mansfield where she worked and retired from the Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co. after almost 40 years of employment. Bertha and her son were faithful members of the Grace Brethren Church of Mansfield, where she served the Lord by managing the Infant Nursery. She continued in willing and tireless service and was loved by many in Upper Sandusky Church of the Nazarene. She dabbled in oil and water color painting after retiring, also ceramic pottery making, and was a skilled crafter and needle craft artisan. She has countless friends, and extended family in this area who have loved her dearly and now rejoice that she is peacefully and forever in the arms of Jesus. Many very special family members kept vigil on a regular basis to meet the needs of this precious mother and we publicly thank them.
