Bell Swerline

August 17, 1937 — July 7, 2015

Bell Swerline, age 77, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 10:02 am at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky.

Bell was born on August 17, 1937 in Balis, Illinois, to Rev. Truman and Thelma (Densmore) Hiatt, both of whom are deceased. She married Gerald Swerline on November 20, 1955 in Sycamore, Ohio and he survives.

She is also survived 2 children: Belinda (Keith) Wodrich,, Jerry (Pam) Swerline, and both of Upper Sandusky. 4 grandchildren, Lindsay (Brent) Baker, Jaron (Tristin) Swerline, Colin Pneuman, Gretchen Raisor, and 4 great grandchildren, Adrian and Jovin Baker, Molly Swerline, and Leah Pneuman.

Bell is also survived by a brother, George (Mary) Hiatt of Los Banos, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and 4 sisters, Betty Lou French, Becky Zinn, Patricia Jones, and Jane Park.

Bell was a 1955 graduate of Sycamore High School and went on to receive her degree in cosmetology from the Fremont Beauty Academy.

Bell was a homemaker, beautician and in later years worked as a bookkeeper for Swerline Services and Fix It in Upper Sandusky. She also drove school bus for the Upper Sandusky Schools for 20 years.

She was a very active member of Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, served on administrative council, and volunteered for Junior and Senior Slam Youth activities, and was an integral part of the prayer chain within the church. Bell was also a member of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class, where she served as secretary and treasurer.

For hobbies, Bell enjoyed knitting and crocheting and shared her gift with others by making outfits for newborns at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, and lap blankets and hats for chemotherapy patients. She also enjoyed traveling with Gerald, to Alaska, Ireland, California and day trips to Amish Country.

Family was a priority to Bell, and she loved her husband, children and all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren immensely. She had a spirit of compassion for others, and there was never a stranger to Bell, everyone was one of significance in her eyes.

Memorial services for Bell Swerline will be held at 11:00am Friday, July 10, 2015 at Trinity Evangelical U.M.C. in Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating.

Visitations will be held at the church on Thursday, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm and 1 hour before service time at the church on Friday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Evangelical, Wyandot Cares Religious Education, Hospice of Wyandot County, or the American Cancer Society, and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
