Arleen E. Gottfried, 83, of Upper Sandusky, died at 8:05 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2015 at her residence.
Born September 9, 1931 in Rhinelander, WI, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Gladys (Welch) Christianson. On May 17, 1950 in Angola, IN, she married James M. Gottfried and he survives in Upper Sandusky.
Surviving are five sons: Dennis J. Gottfried, Rick M. (June) Gottfried, Robert A. (Jeanette) Gottfried, Scott E. (Ginny) Gottfried, and Ken W. Gottfried all of Upper Sandusky, 13 grandchildren, Kevin, Lindsey, Ryan, Jennifer, Ritch , Robert, Carin, James, Beth, Danielle, Ashley, Ed, Tanner. 20 great grandchildren, a brother, John "Jack" Christianson of Key Largo, FL. She was preceded in death by two granddaughters: Andrea and Julie Gottfried, a sister, Shirley A. Karr, and an infant brother, Robert A. Christianson.
She retired in 1998 from RCA in Findlay after 30 years of employment. She was also homemaker and had worked at the former Carey Plastics in Carey.
A woman of faith, she was a member of John Stewart United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky, where she taught Sunday School and was involved in the Martha Moody Class. In her earlier years, she was the director of the youth choir and a member of the Big Oak United Methodist Church in rural Forest. She was also a member of the ABC Mothers League.
In 1990, Arleen and her husband started Gottfried Pony Rides. For the next 18 years, you would see them at area festivals, company picnics, and private parties.
A funeral service for Arleen E. Gottfried will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Chaplain Cathy Fenimore officiating. Interment will follow in Old Mission Cemetery in Upper Sandusky. There will be no visitation.
