Alma M. Steinbaugh, age 88, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on
Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 11:50am at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky, with her son Michael by her side.
Alma was born on July 11, 1925 in New Riegel, Ohio to Raphael and Rose Theresa (Brickner) Lang, both of whom are deceased. She married Howard Steinbaugh on October 13, 1945 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria, Ohio, and he passed away on February 11, 1998.
Alma is survived by 5 children, Theresa (D. Richard) Lykens of Tiffin, Ohio, Jeannine (Dennis) Ulrich of Lehigh Acres, Florida, Michael (Margo) Steinbaugh of Dayton, Marie (Jim) Forney of Forest, Ohio, and Judy (Brian) Janes of Upper Sandusky.
She also has 10 grandchildren, Steven Lykens, Kevin Lykens, Jason Lykens, Lisa Mirro, Ana Bennett, Elana Kostof, Nikki Preston, Stacie Hill, Matthiew Bowling and Hunter Steinbaugh, who was her caregiver and best friend. Alma also has 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Alma is also survived by a brother Earl Lang of Ashland, Ohio, and 2 sisters, Viola Lang of Tiffin and Jean Decker of Fostoria.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Kristen Lykens and a great granddaughter Lacey Mirro, 2 brothers, Marion "Pete" Lang, and Marvin Lang.
Alma was a homemaker and also worked for over 18 years at Liqui-Box Plastics in Upper Sandusky. She also upon her retirement, worked as a caregiver for young and old. And in her early years worked as a bus driver for the Upper Sandusky Schools.
She was a long time member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky, and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia and the Rosary Altar Society. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary with the Upper Sandusky Fire Department and also Wyandot County Council on Aging, where she also did volunteer work. In earlier days when her children were young, Alma was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader.
For hobbies, Alma enjoyed playing bingo, card games especially euchre, baking cookies, working in the garden, and taking walks. She will be remembered for her faith, love of family and especially her grandchildren.
Funeral services for Alma M. Steinbaugh will be held at 10:30am Saturday, December 28, 2013, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in rural Upper Sandusky.
Visitations will be Friday, December 27, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral home in Upper Sandusky.
Memorial contributions may be made to Upper Sandusky Fire Department or the Activities Fund at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH., 43351.
