Alice Mae Cottrell

November 24, 1912 — February 21, 2011

Alice Mae Cottrell, age 98 of Harpster, Ohio was called to her heavenly home on Monday, February 21 at 3:00a.m. in the comfort of her home.

She was born on November 24, 1912 in Marion County, Ohio to the late Robert Delno and Lula (Carnes) Park

She married Dwight M. Cottrell, April 11, 1936 at the United Church of Christ parsonage in Upper Sandusky. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage. He died on November 10, 1995.

Alice is survived by four daughters, Joyce (Zane) Cox of Harpster; Lu (Jerry) Gierhart, South Lyon, Michigan; Darlene (John) Schaadt, Harpster; Paulette (Robert) McDonald, Wyandot. Grandchildren: David Cox, Tim (Jane) Cox, Teresa Gierhart, Dan (Grace) Gierhart, Steve Schaadt, Lisa Schaadt-Bricely, Vincent (Amy) McDonald, Angela (Eric) Farson, Joseph (Casey) McDonald and 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Darrel Park of Upper Sandusky, sister Kathleen (Jack) Landon of Cuyahoga Falls, and her church family.

Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death: by a grandchild; brothers, Harold, Wilbur, Clyde, Warren and Raymond Park; sisters, Florence Weaver, Mildred Donaugh, Mabel Montgomery, Pauline Hotelling and Margaret Hotelling, along with four other siblings that died in infancy, Delno, twins Donald and Dorothy, and Richard.

Alice was lovingly active in the lives of her entire family, her many friends, and her church family. She had a passion for helping family and friends.

A woman of great faith, she was a member of the Harpster United Methodist Church for 75+ years where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher, teacher and helper with Vacation Bible School, the United Methodist Women's organization where she served as president, and the Sunshine Committee. She also volunteered at the Christian Food Center. Alice was a member of the Harpster Mother's Club and The Wyandot County Senior Citizens. She was the Clerk for the Village of Harpster for 25+ years, and supported her husband, Dwight, while he served as the Pitt Township Fire Chief.

For hobbies she enjoyed cooking, baking, and attending anything her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were in from sports to musical events. She loved watching sports on TV especially the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians and Ohio State basketball.

Funeral Services for Alice M. Cottrell will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Harpster United Methodist Church with the Rev. Soo-Hea Park officiating the services. Burial will follow at the Little Sandusky Cemetery in Harpster, Ohio.

Visitations will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 from 2pm - 8pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio and one hour prior to service time at the church on Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harpster United Methodist Church in care of Lucas-Batton Funeral Home 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
