Alfred Bryan Wagner, 86, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed from this life to his eternal home, surrounded by his loving family and friends, on Sunday, March 16, 2008 at the Fairhaven Community, North Campus in Upper Sandusky.
Alfred was born January 18, 1922 in Carey, Ohio, to Alfred B. Wagner Sr. and Ida Reidel Wagner and was reared in the home of the late Chris and Lena Luthy of Upper Sandusky.
He was married to Betty Mae Hogan on September 3, 1943 in Upper Sandusky by Rev. Earl Lutz. and she survives.
Also surviving are 3 sons: Rev. Larry (Cindy) Wagner of Raymond, Ohio, Michael(Bet) Wagner of Findlay, Ohio, Stephan(Karen) Wagner of Perrysburg and a daughter Becky(John) Frederick of Upper Sandusky. 12 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren and also survive along with 2 sisters: Irene Linaberry of Rockford, Illinois and Janiece Olmstead of Bettsville, Ohio. 2 step-sisters: Edith Easley of Tupelo, Missippi and Joyce Kidd of Fostoria, Ohio.
Alfred was preceded in death by a son Thomas E. Wagner, 3 sisters: Viola Sheaffer, Betty Everhart, Florence Margraf and, and 2 brothers: Austin Wagner and
Don Richardson and a step-brother Joe Wagner.
Mr. Wagner was a farmer and former cheesemaker at Chief Dairy. He
retired after 36 years of employment from Wyandot Dolomite Stone Quarry in Carey. He was a member for 64 years of the Apostolic Gospel Church in Upper Sandusky where he served as Head Usher and a honorary Elder. He also loved performing maintenance and grounds keeping at the church. For hobbies, Alfred enjoyed gardening and growing and crafting gourds.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the Apostolic Gospel Church in Upper Sandusky. The Pastor Greg Hord and Rev. Larry Wagner will be officiating. Burial will take place at Old Mission Cemetery in Upper Sandusky.
Visitations will be on Wednesday, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky and 1 hour prior to service time on Thursday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Gospel Church or the Fairhaven Community-North Campus and may be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
