Ala Willene Lucas, age 81, of Westerville and formerly of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, was called home on Friday July 6, 2012 at 4:00PM at the Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. She was visiting family in Florida when she fell ill.
Willene was born on October 27, 1930 near Fitzgerald, Georgia to Burrell T. and Alice (Butler) Henley. She married John Richard "Dick" Lucas on January 6, 1950 in Fitzgerald, Georgia and he died June 15, 1993.
Willene is survived by her daughter, Geneva (Jeffery) Lutz of Westerville, Ohio and her granddaughter Christina Prokop. She is also survived by her brothers, Thomas (Ruby) Henley of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Clarence (Barbara) Henley of Streetman, Texas.
Willene was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, John Richard "Dick" Lucas, her parents Burrell T. and Alice Henley, her sister Geneva Henley, and niece Nicki Henley.
She was retired from the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Fort Worth, Texas and previously was a co-owner of Dick Lucas Realty in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. She had also worked at Stoll Casket Company in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Willene began her career as an airline stewardess after graduating from Massey Business College in Jacksonville, Florida. Willene had been active in Eastern Star and was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Upper Sandusky, Ohio for many years.
Some of Willene's passions in life were her family, especially her only grandchild and she also loved reading, bowling, singing, and dancing.
Funeral services for Ala Willene Lucas will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, July 11 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow at Grand Prairie Cemetery, Marion Ohio
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, July 10, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
