Thomas P. “Butch” Fox, age 75, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed
Away on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at 4:55am at the Wyandot Memorial
Hospital in Upper Sandusky.
Tom was born on March 20, 1942 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio to Vincent and Helen (Johns) Fox, both of whom are deceased. He married Joan D. Johnson on November 10, 1962 in Upper Sandusky, and she passed away on December 11, 1999.
Tom is survived by his brother Jerre (Linda Adams) Fox, and sister Sue (Richard) Zimmerman both of Upper Sandusky, and his loving companion, Carolyn Rife of Upper Sandusky, along with many nieces and nephews.
Tom managed the Newell-Johnson Insurance Agency in Upper Sandusky since 1968. He worked along with his wife until her passing in 1999 and currently continued the agency.
He also served as the Fire Chief for the Upper Sandusky Fire Department until his retirement in 2007. His service in the fire department began with volunteering in 1962 and he served until 1964, when he began as a full-time deputy sheriff with the Wyandot County Sheriff’s office. He held that position for 4 years and then joined the fire department again in 1968. He held various positions of lieutenant, second assistant chief and first assistant chief before city council appointed him as fire chief in 1994.
Tom was currently active with the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Auxiliary. He was a life member, and past Exalted Ruler of the BPOE #83, and member of the Moose Lodge # 1093, both in Upper Sandusky.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Upper Sandusky. For hobbies, enjoyed bowling and following the Cleveland Indians.
Tom will be remembered for his passion for the people of Upper Sandusky, and Wyandot County with his many years of service with the fire department and the sheriff’s office.
A Memorial Service Celebrating the Life of Thomas “Butch” Fox will be held at 11:00am Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Chaplain Steve Sturgeon officiating.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with an Elks Memorial Service to be held at 7:45pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Sandusky Fire Department, Wyandot Memorial Hospital, or Hospice of Wyandot County, and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
