Rosemary McCarthy, age 94, of Upper Sandusky, and formerly of Laguna Woods, California, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 8:05am at the Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky.
Rosemary was born on June 30, 1924 in Pitt Township, Wyandot County to Frederick I.
and Stella Claire (Rall) McCarthy.
She is survived by a 2 brothers, Charles (Sharon) McCarthy of Upper Sandusky, and Thomas (Jo) McCarthy of St. Mary’s, Ohio, along with many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Rebecca Kinn, and a brother Edgar McCarthy.
Rosemary graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1942 and went on to the Cadet Nursing Program with the Toledo Mercy Hospital, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1948. She went on to further her education from St. Mary’s of the Spring in Columbus, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education.
She went on to teach at St. Rita’s School of Nursing in Lima, Ohio, then moved to Los Angeles where she furthered her career as a nurse with the Los Angeles School System, retiring after 35 years.
Rosemary was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the former St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky, and attended St. Peter’s Catholic School up to 8th grade.
For hobbies, Rosemary enjoyed painting in oils and watercolors, and had a passion for travel. During her summers off from school, she and her sister Rebecca traveled to many places throughout the world.
A graveside service for Rosemary McCarthy will be held at 11:00am Thursday, August 2, 2018, at the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery with Deacon Kevin Wintersteller officiating.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s School or a charity of the donor’s choice and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
