Robert Peter Lee

Robert Peter Lee, aged 70, of Upper Sandusky died surrounded by family on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Mount Carmel- St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.  He was born in Bucyrus, Ohio,  on May 3, 1947 to Arnold and Sybil (Gikling) Lee.  He married Sharon R. (Patton) Lee on June 15, 1974 and she survives. 

 

Mr. Lee is also survived by his daughters Erica (Shane) Orians of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Kara (Eduardo) Ausmann of Upper Sandusky, two granddaughters Molly Beth Orians and Stella Rose Ausmann and one grandson, Ross Arnold Orians, and his brother, John (Carol) Lee of Columbus, Ohio as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. 


Mr. Lee was an active member of the First Lutheran Church for his entire life where he served on the church council and volunteered for other activities.  He graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1965 and from Eastern Michigan University in 1970 with a bachelor of science and from Bowling Green State University in 1972 with a master’s degree in education.

 

After teaching and coaching for two years in Clyde, Robby spent the next 28 years teaching at Upper Sandusky Schools where he also coached football, girls track, and many other sports.  During his career he enjoyed mentoring hundreds of students, entertaining Mrs. Fuller’s class, and befriending many other teachers.  Upon his retirement, he educated the youth of Wyandot County on the importance of recycling.

 

Robby enjoyed golfing, especially with his buddies on their annual trips to Hilton Head and Maggie Valley.  He officiated basketball for more than 30 years including boys state tournaments.  For many years he spoke to residents of Fairhaven Community about science, history, current events, and trivia.  He served on the Board of the United Church Homes, who honored him in 2011 with the Ben M. Herbster Award.  He also volunteered for many activities in Upper Sandusky including organizing his class reunions and the Wyandot County Sports Hall of Fame.  He was inducted into the Upper Sandusky High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2005 and was a life member of BPOE 83.  He was looking forward to celebrating his 50th year reunion with the 1967 Eastern Michigan University football team next weekend.

 

Robby will be missed by his wife, daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren and many members of his family and community who respected his energetic personality and enthusiasm for life.

 

A funeral service for Robert Peter Lee will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the First

Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kathleen Shuck officiating.  Burial will be at Old Mission Cemetery.

 

Visitations will be held on Tuesday, October 17, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and also 1 hour before service time at the church on Wednesday.     

 

Memorial donations can be made to United Church Homes (Fairhaven Community) or First Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky or the charity of the donors choice and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
