Richard K. Swinehart, age 72, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
Richard was born on November 28, 1946 in Bucyrus, Ohio to Kenneth and Helen (Cooper) Swinehart, both of whom are deceased. He married Carol Arend on June 6, 1969 at Our Lady of Consolation and this year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, she survives.
Richard is survived by 6 children: Christine (Randy) Beamer of Upper Sandusky, Rick Swinehart of Upper Arlington, David (Jenny) Swinehart of Marysville, Charles Swinehart of Upper Sandusky, Katherine (Darren) Rowland of Upper Sandusky, and Jennifer (Bob) Payne of Carey.
Richard is also survived by 16 grandchildren: Becky Beamer, Ashley Beamer, Sarah Harris, Arielle Swinehart, Alysia Swinehart, Kaylee Swinehart, Meghan Swinehart, Aly Swinehart, Ellie Swinehart, Jacob Swinehart, Emerson Swinehart, Haley Rowland, Blake Rowland, Carson Rowland, Audrina Dotson, Penelope Payne, and 1 great grandchild, Kaia Johnson.
Richard is also survived by 2 sisters, Dorothy Frye of Marion, and Joyce (Dan) Schryer of Upper Sandusky.
Richard was a 1964 Graduate of Mohawk High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After his time in the service, Richard worked at Eaton Corp. – Sypris in Marion, and retired in 2009 after 40 years.
He was a member of Transfiguration of The Lord Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky.
For hobbies, Richard enjoyed going fishing, bowling, spending time with his family at the Casino, and watching harness racing.
Richard especially liked attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was always on call for his children and grandchildren. He was always there when his family needed him, he will be greatly missed.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Upper Sandusky, Ohio with Deacon Kevin Wintersteller officiating. Following services, military graveside rites will be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Veteran’s Color guard.
Visitations will he held from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at the the Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), or the Wyandot County Special Olympics and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
