James H. Schwilk, age 87, of Harpster, Ohio, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 11:25am at his home surrounded by his family.
Jim was born on July 27, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio to Herbert and Frances Moffett-Brigg Schwilk, both of whom are deceased. He was married to Garnet Roberts and later to Diane Larch, and his survived by his special friend, Romain Whitt.
He is survived by his sons: Michael (Sandi) Schwilk, Randall (Becky) Schwilk, both of Upper Sandusky, and Edward Schwilk of Columbus, Ohio. Eight grandchildren: Jason Schwilk, Jeff Schwilk, Joshua (Debbie) Schwilk, Randall (Shauna) Schwilk, Jr., Chad (Danita) Schwilk, April Manns, Adam (Sarah) Miller, and Elizabeth (Pat) Honaker, also survive, along with 19 great grandchildren.

Jim was a tireless worker, maintaining a route for Pepsi-Cola for 16 years, working in the produce department for Lyon’s Grocery, Kroger and Bailey’s IGA in Upper Sandusky, and serving as a long-term custodian for Upper Sandusky schools. His first job was at the former Neikard’s 5 & 10 where he roasted peanuts, and at one time.
Jim also owned and operated Schwilk’s Trailer Sales and Rentals, and recent years operated Killdeer Plains Lawn Service, along with driving veterans to appointments in Wyandot County.
He served for 30 years on the Harpster Village Council, and was a long-time member of Harpster United Methodist Church.
For hobbies, Jim was a big fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, and southern gospel music & sings, which he hosted many times at his home.
Jim will be remembered for his love of Harpster and of people and especially his family. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services for James Schwilk will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Soo-Hea Park officiating. Burial will follow the service at Little Sandusky Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
