I serve as legal counsel to the ORDC on behalf of the Office of the Attorney General and am writing to express my deep and sincere condolences to you and your family. Herk was a gentle and fun loving giant of a Commissioner, but still serious minded and knowledgeable about a wide variety of rail matters. May his memory be a blessing...Alan H. Klodell

There is so much to say about this man. A gentle giant with a heart of gold. We all love you Herk. There are just too many people to list to say how truly sorry I am for your loss. The world was a better place with you in it Herkie, but the party in heaven just got a lot bigger!

To Her's family: Herk was a good and valuable friend to me while I worked at Heidelberg University. One of the alumni I visited over the years was Mary Bemenderfer Saurwein, Herk's aunt. He was very helpful in helping me to get to know Mary and Cliff. We often visited his aunt while she was living in Upper Sandusky. He was a wonderful friend and I was proud to know him. I am sorry for your loss.

My dad was Terry Koehler. I was awaken many Saturday mornings by Herk going by playing the Michigan fight song. I am sure Herk & my dad are having a good time reminiscing & discussing past & future Buckeyes & Wolverines.

Herk was a good friend of my father, Stark Blinky Leser. In November of 1971 Ohio State was playing Michigan in Ann Arbor, my father had an extra ticket he gave to Herk. Two things I remember about that game was Herk singing the Michigan fight song in my ear almost the entire game. He so enjoyed the torture it caused me😃 The second thing I remember is him absolutely going crazy when Woody broke the yard markers across his knee. At the time I was upset, now that game is one of my fondest OSU/MU moment (Michigan won 10-7)

Thank you so much Ann, there are too many such stories to recount, but we take great solace in hearing them all. He was one of a kind and touched so many lives. Thank you so much for sharing your remembrance!

Please accept my most heartfelt condolences. Having worked for S.E. Johnson, I got to know Rick Dunn and other Wyandotte Dolomite individuals. All were quality individuals.
Their work ethic and fairness speak volumes of Herk's leadership and guidance.

May He rest in peace.

GO OILERS!
