George Arthur Hiatt, age 84, of Los Banos, California, passed away on June 4, 2019 at Sutter Memorial Hospital in Modesto, California.
George was born on August 17, 1934 in Quincy, Illinois to Rev. Truman Alfred and Thelma Bernice (Densmore) Hiatt, both of whom are deceased. He married Mary Lois Grandstaff on November 7, 1954 and she survives.
He is also survived by 3 daughters: Sheila Sommers, Shelley Hiatt, Sherry Anderson. 4 grandchildren: Ryan Sommers, Katie Brunkhorst, Rachel Anderson, and John Anderson, along with 2 great grandchildren, Avery and Scarlett Brunkhorst.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 5 sisters, Bell Swerline, Betty Lou French, Becky Zinn, Patricia Jones, and Jane Park.
George and his family moved to Los Banos in 1973 where he worked for the State of California as the manager of the Department of Motor Vehicles.
He was an active member of the Rotary Club and received the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship Award.
George was a husband and father first, a reserve patrolman, butcher by trade, a skilled carpenter, and an overall really great person who would have been honored to know you.
A memorial service for George A. Hiatt will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at the Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Sycamore.
