Eugene (Gene) H. Logsdon

Eugene (Gene) Logsdon, age 84, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio,passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at his home.

Gene was born in Tiffin, Ohio on November 5, 1931 to Gerald and Catherine (Rall) Logsdon and lived the majority of his life in his beloved Wyandot County. Married in Louisville, Kentucky on August 26, 1961, he is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Carol (Downs) Logsdon; daughter, Jennifer (Joseph) Cartellone; and son, Jerry (Jill) Logsdon. He was an incredible Paw Paw to his three grandchildren, Evan and Alex Logsdon and Becca Cartellone; and a much loved big brother to his sisters; Marilyn (Dennis) Barnes, Jenny Barnes, Berny (Brad) Billock, Rosy (Otto) Binau, Teresa (John) Amert, Gerry (Emery) Walton; and brother, Giles (Carol) Logsdon. He is also survived by his step-mother, Sarah Logsdon.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Kathleen Logsdon.

He helped shape the lives of many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and followers and readers of his written work. He spent his life pursuing his passion for writing and was a successful author of more than 30 books and countless magazine articles on small scale farming and sustainable living. Beginning in 1974 he wrote a weekly column for the Progressor Times and more recently began a blog called "The Contrary Farmer" which both brought him endless hours of joy. A second passion of great importance in his life was slow pitch softball where his portrayal of the "Old Softball Nut" was played out in both his writing and on the field. After playing and managing for most of his life, his team aptly named "The Country Rovers" won the Division D National Tournament played in Massillon, Ohio on Labor Day weekend 1995. This accomplishment was the highlight of his softball career and brought him immense happiness as he relived the event in conversation for the rest of his days. His life was a true example of one well lived - fully enjoying his time the way he loved, in the place he loved, with the people he loved...and that has made all the difference. He will be greatly missed.

Visitations for Eugene (Gene) Logsdon will be held on Saturday, June 4 from 2:00p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, Ohio  43351.
