I knew Steve back in the days when we worked and played together in Berchtesgaden, Germany. Steve was always a sweet, kind soul. He shared his immense knowledge of music and musicians and I have him to thank for introducing me to talents I had not heard of but became high on my list of favorites. Steve was always a fun companion and one of the most considerate people I’ve ever known. His laugh was hearty and genuine. I’m truly sorry for his family and friends to lose such a very special person. i will always remember him with great affection. My husband Dave sends his condolences as well. We were a big happy group of friends who enjoyed each other immensely.

In memory of my wonderful Steve. May you now be soaring through the cosmos, perhaps travelling through time, space and dimension, still making beautiful music and forever befriending those in need now, just as you did during your time with us on Earth. You will live forever in my heart dear one.

One portion of Steve's life that should be mentioned is all the years that he spent working with the Armed Forces Recreation Centers in various towns in Germany's Bavaria. He took care of thousands of American and various members of our allies. Steve conducted himself in a great personal and professional manner, make life much better or service members and families. Steve was an excellent example of the kind of American that you would want Germans and other Europeans to think of when they think of what real Americans are like. He was always a credit to himself. his family, his friends and his country.
Everyone that came to know Steve will miss him and cherish all the found memories of him.

Steve was my friend for about 55 years....since we were about 10 years old. In the summer of '69, between our junior and senior years of high school, we hitch hiked to the East Coast. Probably the greatest learning experience of BOTH of our lives. We learned that TWO people who had each other's backs and depended on each other could accomplish anything. Of course this was back when everybody hitch hiked across the country and the thought of violence or murder never even crossed anyone's mind. I talked to Steve several times weeks before his death. He already knew that he was terminal at that point. Steve considered himself "lucky" to be getting such an easy way out....and I told him I was glad that he didn't have to go through a long painful experience. I thanked him for being such a good friend for 55 years and he thanked me for the same. He told me "Roger, one of these times, when you call my cell phone there won't be an answer....but don't worry...I'll be fine". I said "I know you will Steve, we hitch hiked 1600 miles when we were 17 years old, and made it back OK". Steve said "Yeah we did didn't we?". I said "Yeah, and now you're just doing the same thing." Steve said "What do you mean". I said "You're just heading back home." Steve said "Yeah, you're right". That was the last time I talked to him. I offer prayers for his family's suffering of a great loss. I offer prayers of gratitude that my friend lived a good life that came to a peaceful end.

Are hearts, thoughts & prayers go out to your family. Steve was very much loved in our little STAR group. He rode with us many places & we always enjoyed his sense of humor. He will be sorely missed, but fondly remembered...

I agree. I met Steve through the STAR Touring and Riding. He was the sweetest man. It felt like I had known him forever. So easy to talk to. It broke my heart when he told me he was sick. My prayers go out to the family.
