Robert E. “Gene” Koehler, age 90 of Nevada, Ohio, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016, at 12:39 am at the Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky.

 

Gene was born on April 22, 1926, in Salem Twp., Wyandot County, to Robert F. and Mabel E. (Bachman) Koehler.  He married Mary Alice Kinsey on October 17, 1948, in the Nevada Lutheran Church, and she passed away on August 28, 1994.

 

He is survived by four sons: Terry (Barb) Koehler of Bucyrus, Dennis (Kim) Koehler of Bucyrus, Jeff Koehler of Nevada, and Dean (Carol) Koehler of Nevada, along with six grandchildren, Jessica, Kinsey, Robin, Lee, Mark, and Keith and four great-grandchildren.

 

Gene is also survived by a brother, Vernon Koehler, of Upper Sandusky, and two sisters, Mary Jane Constein of Upper Sandusky, and Nancy Roberts of Findlay.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and three sisters, Martha Russell, Betty Lou White, and Evelyn Hehr.

 

Gene was a 4th generation farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Philippines during World War II. 

 

He was a member of the Nevada Lutheran Church in Nevada, Ohio, since 1948, and the American Legion Post #225, Amvets #777, VFW #2842, and the Moose Lodge #1093 in Upper Sandusky, as well as a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association.

 

For hobbies Gene enjoyed flying his ultralight airplane, following auto racing and sprint cars, and dancing and traveling with his wife all throughout the states, Europe, and Asia.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday at the Nevada Lutheran Church with Rev. Tim Nilsen officiating. Burial will follow at Nevada Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted.

 

Visitations will be held on Wednesday, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada and one hour before service time on Thursday at the church.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Nevada Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 401 S. Main St. Nevada,Ohio  44849
